We want our community to receive the mental health care they deserve.

In 2022, a group of therapists in Greenville, South Carolina was approached by invested community members who wished to make Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) more accessible in our area.

The vision for The Life Worth Living Project began in response to a community need and occurred at a time when the number of suicide deaths were among the highest ever recorded. Through significant collaboration with interested parties, our nonprofit was born.

Our name, The Life Worth Living Project, comes from the creator of DBT, Marsha Linehan, who highlights that the primary goal of DBT is to help clients create “a life worth living.”

How we started

What we do

While The Life Worth Living Project does not provide mental health treatment, we actively support those in need of comprehensive DBT and select other evidence-based treatments.

DBT has extensive research that supports its effectiveness in reducing suicide attempts among individuals receiving the treatment. Unfortunately, there are barriers to accessing this therapy, including a shortage of adequately trained providers and limited affordability for clients in need.

To address these barriers, our nonprofit offers financial sponsorships to clients in need of DBT as well as training scholarships for therapists who are passionate about providing evidence-based treatments.

The Dandelion Story

In DBT, therapists often use the “dandelion story” as a metaphor to illustrate the concept of radical acceptance. Radical acceptance is the practice of fully accepting reality as it is, with one’s mind, heart, and body. It is essential in reducing suffering and creating “a life worth living.”

Dandelions also symbolize resilience, hope, and transformation. Our nonprofit believes in the power of evidence-based therapies and their ability to foster everything the dandelion symbolizes.

For this reason, we have incorporated the dandelion within our logo and throughout our website.
